Jeff Thomson leaving the CEC

Calgary, AB – After nearly a year in the role of Interim Executive Director (ED), Jeff Thomson will be leaving the CEC.  The past year was focused on building the foundation for a national sporting organization capable of supporting an Olympic sport.  It has brought many challenges and significant change.  Jeff filled a crucial role during this time as interim ED and prior to that as HPD.

The ED role had been structured as an interim position recognizing that our needs would change over time.  Given the completion of our strategic review, we have determined that the time is right to review how we structure the activities and roles required to continue effective management of the CEC.  That review will take place over the coming months at which point we will add to the CEC staff accordingly, all to ensure that we deliver on our purpose – to be a leader in the promotion and development of competition climbing in Canada for athletes and extended climbing community.

Andrew Wilson will continue in his role of HPD and as a key point of contact for communication for athletes and HP relateed issues.  We have engaged contract support for administrative activities, allowing us to carefully manage our expenses and ensure we are directing as many resources as possible towards our value of being Athlete Centric.  The CEC Board also remains available for support.

On behalf of the Canadian climbing community and ourselves, the CEC Board of Directors would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jeff for his work with the CEC.
